CP Note: WorldNetDaily Jan. 31, 2008 article quotes Jamie Scott, vice president of 1-800-ASPHALT: "How many more businessmen across the country, like me, will stand up to be counted? Maybe worse for you though would be the people who for various reasons will not speak out publicly but privately protest your company by steering contracts away from you and doing their part by secretly protesting. There are already organizations and business owners meeting here in Indianapolis to determine what to do if you earn Permanent Collaborators Status." A letter from Mr. Scott to Weitz appears below. This is one example of the many strongly anti-abortion leaders in the construction industry that have been contacting CP and brainstorming about how they can work against Weitz for building an abortion clinic. 1-800-ASPHALT is one of the largest paving groups in the country with contractors in forty four states from New York to California contracting for millions of dollars of asphalt and site work nationwide.
1-800-ASPHALT Message: If anyone in Colorado dials 1-800-ASPHALT, they hear this recorded message: “If you are in Colorado and looking for asphalt, this is an important public service announcement about a major construction firm. The Weitz Company, W-E-I-T-Z, a nationwide construction firm, has a history of not warning their subcontractors, nor their clients, of series problems that arise when working with Weitz. It is very possible, even likely, that protesters may show up at your home if you hire, or work for, the Weitz Company. Weitz built an abortion superstore in Denver Colorado, and many of the most aggressive anti-abortion street protest organizations have committed to the long-term protest of the homes of Weitz clients and subcontractors, for as many years as Planned Parenthood is doing abortions at the clinic built for that purpose by Weitz. This has been a public service announcement for the benefit of contractors and building customers considering working with The Weitz Company.”

Subject:1-800-ASPHALT
Good Morning. My name is Jamie Scott and I am the Vice-President of 1-800-ASPHALT. As you may already know, 1-800-ASPHALT is one of the largest paving groups in the country. We currently have contractors in forty four states, from New York to California, and we share millions of dollars of asphalt and site work across the county. We have been busy building this network now for ten years and are growing at a record pace. We are even in the process of making a major media purchase to advertise 1-800-ASPHALT nationally to aid in that growth. My point for sharing this is to show you that we are not a minor player in the pavement industry or just another local company.
It is with a heavy heart and deep concern that I write this letter to you today. I am, like you, just a businessman trying to earn the best living for my family that I can while building a business I can be proud of. I enjoy my business and I am proud of what I do. I am concerned that after the imposed January 31st, 2008 Collaborators Project deadline of Permanent Collaborators status, you might have a hard time making this statement. I strongly urge you to reconsider building this abortion clinic. I believe that what you are doing is morally wrong but let’s put aside the moral argument for one moment. It has been made clear to you by Mr. Duffy and countless other pro-life leaders that if you do not pull out of this project by January 31st, they are prepared to begin the long grind of protesting your business offices, work sites, and homes for as long as Planned Parenthood is doing business in the building you are preparing for them. Now from a business standpoint, I have one question to ask of you. Is the money you are making off of this abortion clinic enough? Is it enough to justify what could be ten, twenty, even thirty years of protests at your business sites? Is it enough to justify having these people protesting your home on every major holiday? Is it enough to justify having the Weitz company name and even your own names linked forever with child killing? And this is only what the pro-life groups are prepared to do.
As I mentioned earlier, I am not a pro-life leader. I am a businessman located in Indianapolis, Indiana. I have kept up on what is going on there in Colorado through Bob Enyart’s radio programs which are broadcast there in Colorado but is also available online across the country and worldwide. For years Bob Enyart Live has hosted seminars here in Indianapolis that have had a total of more than 500 people attend, and he also had a television show that aired in many markets across the country, including Indianapolis. This is how I became familiar with him. It is my understanding that Mr. Enyart’s program and ministry reaches far and wide. This raises another concern for you. How many more businessmen across the country, like me, will stand up to be counted? Maybe worse for you though would be the people who for various reasons will not speak out publicly but privately protest your company by steering contracts away from you and doing their part by secretly protesting. There are already organizations and business owners meeting here in Indianapolis to determine what to do if you earn Permanent Collaborators Status. My fear for you is that we are the first of hundreds of companies that will begin collaborating against The Weitz Company if you do not pull off of this project.
Sincerely,
Jamie Scott
Vice-President
1-800-ASPHALT
